Episode 6: Rated H for Homicidal Homoeroticism

On this week's episode, Britney and Katie talk about one of the best critically received and most Award season snubbed movies of 2019 , THE LIGHTHOUSE,

In the late 19th century, two lighthouse keepers fight to survive the elements, and each other, as a great storm rages externally and internally in Robert Eggers sophomore film.

After the success of THE WITCH, Robert Egger’s much anticipated THE LIGHTHOUSE was praised by audiences and critics alike throughout 2019. Probably the most Oscar-worthy film of veteran actor Willem Dafoe’s long career. But when award season rolled around in early 2020, THE LIGHTHOUSE only received a single nomination for cinematography and none at all for the performances. This makes it another brilliant horror movie in a long line of well made films basically ignored by the Academy. So, of course we had to talk about it!

Interestingly enough, Cannes Film Festival did award Robert Egger’s with the FIPRESCI Prize and Willem Dafoe won several independent film awards for his role. So, at least there’s that.

Also, after we recorded this episode, I found another 2019 film named THE LIGHTHOUSE on Amazon Prime. It looks like it is either a rip-off small budget movie or a film about the original lighthouse incident which somewhat inspired Robert and Max Eggers.

Next episode’s movie: PARASITE (2019)
