Episode 9: Rated S for Sparkly Sexual Headbands
DOGTOOTH is a 2009/2010 Greek film by Oscar nominated director Yorgos Langthimos.
In their country compound, a man and his wife have kept their three children in complete isolation. The movies they watch are only family made films. The vocabulary they learn is rearranged by the parents. And the only contact to the outside world they get is in the form of a young woman named Christina who is brought in to service the son sexually. A frustrated and ignorant Christina interacts with the older daughter, who in turn uses Christina to view the outside world. What follows is a disturbing cautionary tale of what happens when we go too far to protect the ones we love.
***WARNING***
Although we talk about a lot of adult themes and acts of violence on our podcast, DOGTOOTH was a standout for us both. The movie shows in full view physical, sexual, and mental abuse by family members. So, proceed with caution.
